One of the premises that reflexology is based on is the concept of Zone Theory. There are ten zones running longitudinally from the toes up legs through the torso around the head, down the arms, out the fingers. Imagine, if you will, 10 garden hoses. each connected to a finger. You’ve got 5 hoses running up each arm, all ten hoses into your neck and head, all 10 hoses through your torso, into your buttocks then 5 hoses traveling down each leg and out your toes. For the fluid to travel freely, your garden hoses must be clear, clean and straight. If there is a kink or leak any where in the hoses, any where in the zones, the fluid dynamics will be compromised both above and below that area.

Our bodies, in their infinite wisdom, know how to clear the zones, flush the hoses. We were designed to be in balance, in harmony, in homeostasis. But sometimes the stresses, tensions, traumas come at us faster than we can clear them, hence, kinks in your garden hoses. Reflexology is a way to get the kinks out. A tender reflex area can be interpreted as a kink somewhere in the zone, congestion in the pathway that is affecting the fluid dynamics along the zone. Clear the congestion, clear the pathway to better health.
